Little Gallery

‘What is there to do today?’ No matter what your taste is, Hohenstein-Ernstthal gives everyone plenty of choice.
Why not visit the “Little Gallery” (Kleine Galerie) which was opened in 1979 and shows the works of well-known artists from our region. In more than 160 exhibitions, interested visitors have had the opportunity to admire the different individual styles of the exhibitors and the artistic quality of their works.

Also the young blood, especially the art classes of the nearby grammar school, use the only 50 square metres (60 square yards) big exhibition room with its historical cross vault for their courses or to present their works. Regular previews and the annual gallery festivity offer the opportunity for many a shop-talk between artists and interested art lovers.

If you like music, don’t miss to visit one of the town hall or church concerts that take place here at regular intervals. The SAXONIADE, a brass band music festival with music shows and impressive street parades, held every two years, welcomes youth orchestras from all over the world. For further information, please contact our tourist office.

Happiness at the “Mountain Fair”

A lively variety of colourful events, festivals and fairs, such as the Karl May Festival, the Hohenstein Funfair and the so-called “Mountain Fair” on the Pfaffenberg hill, to name but a few, offer interest and entertainment all around the year. The latter is celebrated every year in the middle of August and attracts thousands of guests from near and far

Being a part of a large nature reserve, the ample park in the north of our town on top of the Pfaffenberg hill is well worth exploring. The popular recreational area, which includes several nice little inns, sports facilities and a nature trail, invites you to enjoy a quiet stroll through nature all the year around.

Serpentinit-quarry
The trails have numerous vantage points with a spectacular view of the near Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains). With clear visibility you can even see Saxony’s highest mountain, the 1214 m (3983 ft.) high Fichtelberg on the horizon.
The Pfaffenberg hill also provides an ideal starting point for walkers. Well-signposted hiking trails lead you to the district of Wüstenbrand, to the nearby village Grüna or to the Oberwald forest with its serpentine quarry and the Karl May cavern.

Also sports fans can have a very good time here. Several sports fields, gymnasiums and bowling alleys invite you to exercise your body. Or why not spend a day on horseback, on a tennis court or in a gym? For all this and more – one call is all it takes to arrange your activities here. Please contact our tourist information centre.

No matter what the time of year, come and enjoy the fun and exciting atmosphere of the swimming bath “HOT Badeland”. Within the reconstructed centre you’ll find different swimming and bathing pools as well as an attractive sauna bath area. A great variety of courses manifold wellness offers and an inviting restaurant complete your visit. Call on +49-(0)3723-40170 for further details.
